Summix Capital Ltd is putting together proposals for a new office development at 179 Canongate, Edinburgh.

Situated on a site previously associated with the former city gasworks, the proposals seek a characterful office development, promoting additional workspace within the heart of the Old Town.

Canongate is situated at the heart of Edinburgh’s Royal Mile in Edinburgh’s city centre within easy walking distance of the major tourist attractions, festival venues, shops, and nightlife and transport connections.

Located in close proximity to both Waverley Station and Holyrood, the scheme looks to build upon on newly created pedestrian routes through the adjacent New Waverley project, providing a well-connected building that aligns to the emerging City Centre Transformation Strategy in facilitating greater levels of active transport and diversity of use.

Taking cognisance of its setting in the context of both the wider UNESCO World Heritage Site and the A-listed structures of the Canongate Kirk and Canongate Tolbooth, the development has been considered and shaped to provide a sensitive response, positively contributing to its surrounding townspace, in maintaining a significant proportion of the layered historic fabric that is present to its boundaries, whilst forming a more active outward looking façade, improving security and activity to the historic closes and courts with which it engages.
